Description
Banksy’s iconic artwork “Girl with Balloon” first appeared in 2002 as a mural on London’s South Bank, accompanied by the message “There is always hope.”
This sentence suggests that the work conveys a message of hope and optimism.
In 2018, during a Sotheby’s auction, a version of “Girl with Balloon” was partially shredded immediately after the sale. Banksy later revealed that he had built a shredder into the frame in case the work was ever auctioned. He explained: “The urge to destroy is also a creative urge.”
While Banksy rarely makes direct statements about his work, these actions and messages suggest that “Girl with Balloon” explores themes of hope, transience, and the value of art.
Size approx: 10x10cm
