Efrosini Efrosini (Nousa, Greece) — Greek glass artist Efrosini, who signs her work as Eratini (“with love, with passion”), combines glass fusing with painting. In 1990 she founded her own glass studio GaDeCo Glass and developed a distinctive style in which fused glass is coloured by hand. Her work has been exhibited in Paris, London and New York, among other cities. Efrosini is a Greek glass artist from Nousa (Naousa), Greece. She trained in glass art both in Greece and internationally, combining her knowledge of glass working with a background in painting. In 1990 she founded her own glass studio under the name GaDeCo Glass. She signs her work as “Eratini,” a name that refers to longing and love. Her glass sculptures have since found their way to collectors and galleries in the United States, Canada, Italy, France, Austria, Germany and the United Kingdom, among others. In the glass fusing world she is regarded as one of the leading artists of her generation.
Efrosini’s work stands out in several recognisable ways. First, the technique: she works with fused glass (glass fusing), in which glass sheets are fused together at high temperatures to create three-dimensional forms. Second, the hand colouring — each piece is painted by hand after fusing, meaning no two works are identical. Third, her subjects: Efrosini consistently returns to elegant animal forms (cats, butterflies, birds) and human figures in motion (dancers, girls with balloons). Fourth, the colour palettes that range from warm and earthy to bright and transparent, always with a visible depth created by the layering of the glass. Like Lisa Larson and Jellie van Kranen, Efrosini creates artisan animal figurines with character, but where they use ceramics and other materials, Efrosini chooses glass as her medium.
