The inspiration for Ruby came from the unique beauty of the pomegranate fruit, whose seeds are similar to rubies in their deep red colour and round shape. Pomegranates are extremely nutritious and believed to be an auspicious fruit in the Thai culture. I also see some of the same qualities in elephants, Thailand’s national animal. Elephants have been around for centuries and are highly revered as sacred animals. Therefore, I think using pomegranates as an element in the statue is fitting.

“My contribution to the Elephant Parade is a tribute to an animal which has huge ears, gigantic muscles and tail in both ends. The elephant does not make sense and I thought that my contribution does not have to either. So there are fried eggs, camouflage, roads and lots of patterns.”
