Kedarone: pop culture in graffiti and sculpture

Kedarone — full name KedarOne — was born in 1992 in Pertuis, a small town near Aix-en-Provence in the south of France. From childhood he dreamed of a life as an artist. In 2007, at the age of fifteen, he started with graffiti. He studied at the Celony school in Aix-en-Provence, where he obtained his first qualifications. Since then he has participated in festivals such as the Artwork Festival and D1g1t Art Lourmarin, and his work is sold internationally through gallery networks including Carre d'artistes, Artsper and ArtMajeur.

Kedarone describes himself as someone who has preserved his inner child. This is directly visible in his work: he paints and models characters that reference childhood memories and pop culture — figures that a wide audience can identify with.

How to recognise Kedarone's style

The work of Kedarone is recognisable by a number of striking features:

  • Graffiti aesthetic: Kedarone works primarily with spray cans and stencils, reflecting his background in street art. The textures, drips and graphic lines of graffiti are present in all his work, including his sculptures.
  • Pop culture icons as subject matter: His favourite subjects are recognisable characters from films, comics and games. Think Mario, Iron Man, Batman, Spider-Man, Totoro and Betty Boop. This choice is deliberate: these are figures from our collective childhood memories.
  • Dual background with UV effect: Many of Kedarone's paintings have a distinctive feature: a dual background in which part of the colours only becomes visible under an ultraviolet lamp. This adds a hidden layer to the work.
  • Cube sculptures: In addition to paintings, Kedarone creates three-dimensional works, including his signature cube-shaped sculptures featuring pop culture characters rendered in his graffiti handwriting.

Like Banksy and Herman Brood, Kedarone uses raw, graphic techniques rooted in street culture. Where Banksy makes social commentary and Britto uses optimistic pop art, Kedarone brings childhood nostalgia into the gallery through graffiti and pop culture icons.

Who is Kedarone a good gift for?

A sculpture by Kedarone suits anyone who loves pop art, street art and pop culture. It makes a compelling gift for gamers, film fans, comic enthusiasts or anyone who grew up with the characters Kedarone depicts. The colourful, playful style also makes it a striking decorative piece for a modern interior.

The sculptures work well as a gift for younger art enthusiasts (ages 20-40) who appreciate street art and contemporary art, but also for collectors of pop art objects. It represents a relatively accessible entry point into the world of contemporary art collecting. A Kedarone sculpture makes a fitting birthday gift for anyone who grew up with gaming and pop culture.

Less suitable for those who prefer classical or abstract art. The subjects — superheroes, game characters — are firmly rooted in pop culture, and that does not appeal to everyone. Those looking for subtle, understated artworks will probably find Kedarone's bold graffiti aesthetic too busy.
