My idea was to bring back the essence of being carioca despite our crisis and lack of hope that we have nowadays in Rio. We are sunny, vibrant and stylish people and that’s why I called it “cool”. The floral influence represents the colorful happiness and its stripe socks and shoes is a contrast of carioca’s unique dressing style.

My inspiration comes both when I’m out or at home, in my studio, listening to the radio or a good LP.
It’s a ‘bicycle elephant’ with its trunk in the wind. The title of the elephant is ‘Elefantino’ a reference to the nickname of famous cyclist Marco Pantani, thus making a link between elephants and bicycles.

“Elephant Memory Man has so much on his mind. His sidekick Ele looks on and wonder what is to be done. It was a lot of fun working on the Elephant – the first time I’ve has to paint a 3D object, so it was a new challenge figuring out how the design would work. I wanted the imagery to be connected with the comics work I do, but also linked somehow to the idea of elephants.”
