A great variety of geographical spaces can be found in the Arequipa territory in Peru. The region has Andean valleys, pampas, a volcanic chain, high Andean plateau and deserts that border the sea. The term Doucai literally means ‘contrasting colours’, or ‘compete for colour’. Doucai was a porcelain enamelling technique perfected during the reign of the Chinese Emperor Xuande during the Ming Dynasty.
