His first drawings were published in l’Écho des étudiants the Montpellier in 1923. And already one discovers his characters, namely, the large overbearing female and the puny little male. These characters, drawn from real life were inspired by a highly bourgeois couple from Montpellier. She was a beautiful woman, statuesque and autocratic, and he, a puny little man with a Panama hat, in the shadow of his wife.
