His first drawings were published in l’Écho des étudiants de Montpellier in 1923. And already one discovers his characters, namely the large dominant woman and the small, small man. These characters, drawn from real life, were inspired by a very middle-class couple from Montpellier. She was a beautiful woman, stately and autocratic, and he, a puny little man in a Panama hat, in the shadow of his wife.
